Everybody Lives in Practice
The everybody-lives AU is the fix-it impulse at maximum generosity: rather than reversing one death, the story simply repeals mortality's hold on the cast, whether by branching before the tragedies or quietly handwaving them away. The tag is most heavily used in fandoms whose canons are famous bloodbaths — war epics, tragedy-prone fantasy, anything with a body count fandom never forgave — where it functions as a posted guarantee of emotional safety. Variants refine the promise: 'Everyone Lives/Nobody Dies,' or the wry 'Everybody Lives Except [Villain],' fandom reserving the right to keep certain deaths. The genre's pleasure is unapologetic wish fulfillment, and the tag's existence means nobody has to gamble on it.
