What Does No Archive Warnings Apply Mean?
AO3 PlatformAn AO3 warning option stating that none of the four major archive warnings — graphic violence, major character death, rape/non-con, underage — occur in the work. It is an affirmative all-clear, not a refusal to say.
No Archive Warnings Apply in Practice
AO3's warning system requires authors to make a choice, and 'No Archive Warnings Apply' is the option that actively promises readers the big four aren't present. It is meaningfully different from 'Choose Not To Use Archive Warnings,' which tells readers the author is staying silent and they proceed at their own risk. The distinction matters enormously in practice: readers who filter out CNTW works will still happily read 'No Archive Warnings Apply,' treating it as a safety signal. A work can still contain other difficult content, which is what additional tags are for.
Example usage
"I only read CNTW from authors I trust, but No Archive Warnings Apply means I'll click on anything."
