What Does Anonymous Collection Mean?
AO3 PlatformAn AO3 collection setting that hides the creator's name on works inside it, displaying 'Anonymous' instead. The author keeps full control of the work and can be revealed later, or never.
Anonymous Collection in Practice
Collections on AO3 can be configured as anonymous, unrevealed, or both — anonymity hides who wrote a work, while unrevealed hides the work itself until a set reveal date. Gift exchanges use these settings constantly: works stay hidden until the collection opens, then post anonymously so recipients can guess their gift-giver before authors are revealed. Beyond exchanges, standing anonymous collections let writers publish things they prefer not to attach to their main pseud, from experimental work to content outside their usual brand. Kudos and comments function normally; only the byline is masked.
Example usage
"It is in an anonymous collection until reveals on Sunday, but I would bet money I know who wrote it."
