What Does Pseud Mean?
AO3 PlatformShort for pseudonym: an alternate byline attached to a single AO3 account. One account can post works under multiple pseuds, keeping different identities organized without separate logins.
Pseud in Practice
Pseuds are AO3's identity-management system: every account starts with a default pseud matching the username and can create more, each with its own profile, icon, and works list. Fans use them to separate genres (the fluff byline versus the dark-fic byline), fandoms, or eras of their writing life, and orphaning interacts with them — you can orphan works while leaving the old pseud name attached, anonymizing yourself without erasing history. One nuance worth knowing: pseuds under one account aren't a security wall, since readers can sometimes see pseuds share an account; for true separation fans maintain entirely distinct accounts.
Example usage
"Her main pseud is all 5k fluff pieces; the other pseud is where the 200k political intrigue epics live."
