The rating covers an enormous share of fluff, gen, friendship fic, and kidfic-adjacent material, and many readers filter to G or Teen as a standing preference. Authors calibrate the line individually, and the recurring 'rated G but emotionally rated R' joke acknowledges what the system measures and what it cannot: content, not impact.
