What Does Marked for Later Mean?
AO3 PlatformAn AO3 feature that lets logged-in users flag a work to read later. Marked works collect in a private list under the user's History page.
Marked for Later in Practice
Marked for Later is AO3's built-in to-be-read pile: hit the button on any work and it lands in a list only you can see. Unlike bookmarks, which can be public and carry notes and tags, the Marked for Later list is private and purely functional. Many readers use the two systems together — Marked for Later as the inbox, bookmarks as the permanent record of favorites. The archive will also show a banner when you open a work you've previously marked, which is handy for remembering why a fic looked familiar.
Example usage
"My Marked for Later list is over 300 fics deep and I refuse to feel guilty about it."
