What Does Multishipper Mean?
Shipping CultureA fan who enjoys multiple ships for the same character or within the same fandom, including pairings that contradict each other. The opposite of a fan with one exclusive OTP.
Multishipper in Practice
Multishippers treat ships as flavors rather than commitments: the same character can be shipped with a rival in one fic and a best friend in another, and both can be great. The stance functions almost as a peace position in fandoms prone to shipping wars, since multishippers by definition refuse to treat pairings as a zero-sum contest. The phrase 'I multiship' often appears in bios precisely to ward off being recruited into ship conflicts. Its emphatic cousin is 'I ship it all,' and its opposite pole is the dedicated OTP-only shipper.
Example usage
"As a multishipper I cannot be hurt by ship discourse — I have a lifeboat in every fleet."
