What Does Omegaverse Mean?
Content TermA shared alternate-universe framework, also called A/B/O, in which people have a secondary biological designation — alpha, beta, or omega — that shapes social hierarchy, instincts, and reproduction. It is one of fandom's most widespread invented genres.
Omegaverse in Practice
Omegaverse emerged from kink meme prompts in the Supernatural fandom around 2010 and spread across virtually all of fandom, evolving from its origins into a flexible genre that individual authors customize heavily. Typical worldbuilding elements include pack dynamics, scent-based bonding, heats and ruts, and male pregnancy, though no single rulebook exists and many fics spend considerable energy on their own variations. The genre spans explicit work, slow-burn romance, and serious explorations of biology-as-destiny social commentary. It has even crossed into published romance and webcomics, and was the subject of a widely reported lawsuit over genre tropes — a reminder that no one owns omegaverse conventions.
Example usage
"She swore she'd never read omegaverse, and then one well-tagged 100k slow burn converted her completely."
