Outsider POV is a beloved formal trick because it restores wonder to characters fandom knows inside out: through a stranger's eyes, the familiar heroes become strange, alarming, or quietly magnificent again. Classic setups include the new hire slowly realizing their coworkers are superheroes, the neighbor piecing together that the couple next door are retired assassins, and the barista who has Opinions about the regulars' unresolved tension. The form rewards dramatic irony — readers decode what the narrator can't — and it doubles as a love letter, since the outsider usually ends up as impressed with the protagonists as the author is.
