What Does Reblog Mean?
Fandom CultureTumblr's share function: reposting someone's post to your own blog, optionally with commentary or tags added. Reblogging is how fanwork circulates and how Tumblr fandom culture happens.
Reblog in Practice
The reblog shaped a generation of fandom in ways that still matter: because reblogs carry posts between unconnected blogs, fanart, fic links, headcanons, and memes spread through chains of enthusiasm rather than algorithms, and a post can resurface years later with thousands of accumulated additions. Tumblr-specific customs grew around the mechanics — commentary added in tags is semi-private side-channel speech, and 'reblog karma' etiquette in some communities asks fans to share others' work, not just their own. For creators the reblog is the meaningful currency, since likes don't spread work to new eyes; 'reblogs over likes' remains a perennial artist plea.
Example usage
"My three-year-old post about their first meeting is circulating again — someone reblogged it into a big fandom's orbit overnight."
