Fandom Bingo in Practice
Bingo challenges flourished in LiveJournal and Dreamwidth fandom and still run annually in many communities. Each player gets a randomized card — squares might read 'fake dating,' 'fever,' 'first kiss,' or stranger things depending on the bingo's theme — and fills squares with fics, art, or other fanworks over the event period. The appeal is structured freedom: prompts spark ideas without assigning recipients or deadlines per work, and completing a line earns bragging rights rather than obligations. Many writers use bingo cards as a year-round idea bank, and 'this fills my [square] square' is a familiar author's note.
