What Does Bias Mean?
Fandom CultureIn K-pop fandom, your favorite member of a group — the one whose fancams you watch and whose photocards you hunt. Your single favorite across all groups is your ult (ultimate) bias.
Bias in Practice
Bias is the organizing unit of K-pop fannish identity: introductions in fan spaces routinely include group and bias, and merchandise culture (photocards, fansite prints) is built around member-level devotion. The term spawned an ecosystem of derivatives — bias wrecker for the member threatening the incumbent, ult bias for the all-time favorite, bias line for a fan's set of favorites. Unlike a comfort character or blorbo, a bias is a real person, which puts the term squarely in RPF-adjacent territory and shapes its etiquette. The word has begun leaking into non-K-pop fandoms as a synonym for favorite, usually with a wink at its origin.
Example usage
"My bias hasn't had a bad hair era since 2019 and I take full credit for manifesting that."
