Reverse Bang in Practice
In a traditional big bang, authors write long fics and artists then create companion art; the reverse bang inverts the pipeline, putting visual artists in the driver's seat. Artists submit finished pieces or detailed concepts, writers browse and claim them — often through anonymous claiming rounds run by mods — and then build a story that honors the image. The format is prized for generating fic that would never otherwise exist, since a striking image can take a writer somewhere no prompt meme would. Both works post together at the end, credited as a collaboration, and the events run on the same mod-and-deadline infrastructure as other fests.
